HEALTHIER FILIPINO COOKING Exhibition

Attendees to this year's Piyesta Pinoy sa Bolingbrook, the largest Filipino-American festival in the Midwest, will get the chance to taste healthier versions of classic and modern Filipino-inspired dishes which will be demonstrated on site at the Bolingbrook Performing Arts Center grounds on June 11.

 

Accomplished Fil-Am Chefs Marilyn McNabb, Enric Tolentino and cooking coach Ren Mendoza are showcasing their own recipes scheduled at 1pm, 4pm and 7pm at the Three Horses Jasmine Rice Cooking Demo tent set up near the main entertainment stage.

 

Cooking personality Johanna Mirpuri, also known as Momma Cuisine and host of In the Kitch, will be facilitating and engaging the audience during the demonstrations organized by Mango Rice Productions, in partnership with the Philippine American Cultural Foundation (PACF) and the Filipino-American Community Health Initiative of Chicago (FACHIC).

 

Marilyn McNabb is a culinary instructor and now Executive Pastry Chef of the Hilton Chicago in Northbrook.  Ren Mendoza, is the CEO of Triple A Health Venture and a cooking coach for Saladmaster which promotes healthy lifestyles through proper nutrition and healthy cooking.  Enric Tolentino, a recent graduate of Le Cordon Bleu Chicago, is currently a Research Chef and Quality Assurance Manager for Do & Co Gourmet Airline Catering.

 

Aside from free tasting of the dishes prepared during the demos (available on a first come, first serve, while supplies last basis), give-aways, gift certificates, and recipe booklets will be given to lucky members of the audience.

 

The cooking demos are made possible by the contributions of Three Horses Jasmine Rice, Saladmaster / Triple A Health Venture, Wet USA / Wet International, Transformation Beauty Spa, Ramar Foods / Magnolia, Cecy and Color Salon, World Financial Group (WFG), and Torre Lorenzo Development Corporation.

 

Piyesta Pinoy is an annual celebration which highlights the heritage and culture of the Philippines.  The event starts at 11am and draws thousands of people predominantly from Fil-Am communities all over Illinois and neighboring states.  The Bolingbrook Performing Arts Center is located at 375 W. Briarcliff Road in Bolingbrook.  Admission is free.
